provision of critical mass and density is the necessary starting point for the development of an effective urban environment.?Zaha Hadids visionary concept acknowledges 15、the strong presence of the Meixi Lake,creating a vibrant urban scheme and establishing an organic order and elegance that is akin to the beauty found in nature:?The International Culture&Arts Centre embodies a unique variety of Theatre is the focal point of the Changsha International Culture&Arts Centre.It is the largest18、 performance venue in the city with a total capacity of 1800 seats.Designed to host world-standard performances the building contains will contain all the necessary front of house functions,such as lobbies,cloakrooms,bars,restaurants,and VIP hospitality,as well as the required ancillary functions,su19、ch as administration,rehearsal rooms,backstage logistics,dressing and make-up rooms,and wardrobe.?The Museums composition of three fluid petals around its internal central atrium,juxtaposes of the various patchworks of gallery spaces in a truly seamless fashion.With outward views and balconies to it20、s exteriors,it aims to engage the sites unique location and surrounding views into some of its gallery spaces.An external plaza which faces Meixi Lake Road allows for outdoor sculptures,exhibitions and events to be extended to an expansive outdoor space which public access to retail areas and restaurant facilities which ar23、e seated in an open,and gently sunken courtyard linking visitors to and from the basement level.?The retail area,which welcomes all visitors arriving from the underground parking and adjacent plazas,also works as a platform to provides key facilities that are shared by all venues;During the day,the 24、retail serves mainly the Museum,while during the evening it receives public from the two theatres as pre/post performance food and beverages outlets.?Although these civic institutions are uniquely defined and separate,they supply each other in all respects within its setting with plazas offering vis25、itors a tapestry-like sequence of urban ambiances that relate to the different institutions,inject the site with urban vitality.?The working hours of the different venues also overlap to ensure continuity during the full 24 hour cycle;Operated during the evening,the Grand Theatre becomes active as t26、he Museum begins the schemes prevailent features.Each building is accessible 39、through independent flows that organize different routes for different groups of users.Along these routes,the landscape rises gently to create individual forecourts and building lobbies which also work as communication hubs that enable flexible itineraries and ensure open accessibility for all users40、.?Changsha Meixihu International lanes for private cars,VIP and public transport,utilising separate rou41、tes for clear and intuitve access.There are pick-up/drop-off areas along the main thoroughfares to each building,with separate access for VIP,and passage access to basement level.Although the site can be accessed from all directions,drop-offs and pedestrian access are designated along the active mai42、n road to the North(Meixihu road)supporting direct access for VIP to the Museum,and along the lake-facing route to the South(Huanhu road)with direct VIP access(with predominant traffic travelling from the west)to the Grand Theatre and Small Theatre respectively.Underground vehicular routes runs west43、 of the site and perpindicular against Meixihu road and Huanpu road links these routes to direct visitors to basement-level parking(approx.475 parking bays),or as a drop-off towards an open courtyard area which to draw visitors towards the central plaza above.These also serve as underground loading 44、access for the Museum near the North,and the Small theatre loading to the south.There are 2 underground entrances/exits north-west and south-west of CMIC&AC,and an exit to the south-east.A further loading access for the occasional access of large items to the Museums Big-Box is designated above-grou45、nd,to the North West.Back of house access to the Grand Theatre(scenery,props and performers access)are located on ground level to the East of the site with designated parking for coaches and broadcasting vehicles.?Site Levelling?A gentle level difference exists between level roads;the Meixi Lake Roa46、d(at 41m)to the North and Huanhu Road and 36m to the South.The project capitalizes on the given characteristics of this leveling condition to naturally guide visitors accessing from the North and South towards the central plaza via a landscaped corridor.The landscape is in part raised gently to crea47、te open forecourts and plazas to the respective main entrances of each venue to thus,create a series of outdoor lobbies,which also raises the profile of each building;with the Grand theatre forecourt at 43m(back of house entry to the grand theatre at 39m),Museum at 41.5m and the Small theatre at 40m48、 to the south.A level VIP Access to the Grand Theatre at 39.15m guides visitors to a private designated entrance from the South,and similarly to the Museum at 41.5 from the North.Basement access to an underground level of 32m is anticipated to adjoin and facilitate the future business district west 49、of the site.?Environmental Landscape?The landscape design materializes in response to each building,carefully stitching the interface with the interweaving of green and water on the ground.The Meixi Lake Districts dominant green street typology is expanded into the site,creating spaces with varying 50、levels intimacy and also as buffer zones between busy hard-landscaped thoroughfares and building entrances.Picking up on the green quality of the urban landscape,the proposal looks forward to enhancing the unique and natural elegance in its immediate context by providing creating a system of green s51、paces in the vicinity with a view into cultural and civic node for the city of Changsha that embodies values of functionality,elegance and innovation.Zaha Hadids concept for the Culture&Arts Center is intrinsically urban,creating a network projected form of the building.An outdoor ticketing&informati59、on area is designated on the north west crevasse of the Grand Thea-tre,which can be accessed during all-day.Visitors are drawn to the venues outdoor forecourt,which acts as a precursor for visitors.The foyer,which leads visitors over 3 levels are is an expansive spatial repertoire of slopes which gu60、ides audiences over a journey throughout this expansive volume at different levels overlooking the lobbies,and with seamless access to balconies and bridges which extend outwards.The external bal-conies will offer guests stunning broad views and vistas over Meixi Lake,and aim to offer a mix of rest-61、ing areas,and belvederes.Access to the venue for VIP is located at the forms intersection at the buildings south east,with private lounge facilities and steps-free access to the main performance halls VIP seating area.Front of house(FOH)and Back of house(BOH)are notably separated with separate acces62、s and cir-culation between Designed to host world-standard performances the building contains will contain all the necessary front of house functions,such as lobbies,cloakrooms,bars etc.and ancillary functions,such as administration,rehearsal rooms,backstage logistics,dressing and make-up rooms,and 63、ward-robe,which are accessed from separate entrances from the East side of the building.All technical plant floors are also accessible through the BOH cores.Whilst skylights outline the buildings spatious foyer,shading is developed by introducing louvers in the depth of the faade shell which plays a64、 dynamic role in controlling the interior environment com-fort.The buildings skin is responsive to the orientation of the different faades,and designed to adopt a rainscreen composition using GRC as its surface material,the faade would aim to reduce high heat gains during Changshas hot summers.The r65、esponsive skin,together with water and waste management/recycling measures,constitute significant steps towards obtaining the desired Environmental Certification.The buildings faade morphology is corroborated by the lighting design concept,using different moods of light to produce a striking new con66、tribution to Meixi Lake District nightscape.Showcasing and promoting advanced design,engineering and innovative technology,The concept is generated through parametric design using form finding Changsha Meixihu Cultural and Arts Centre site;it is part of a larger de-velopment c88、onsisting of a Grand Opera Building to the east of the Museum and a Small Theatre with Retail&Catering facilities to the south.To the south side of the building is the main plaza area which also links to the entrances to the other buildings and the basement parking and loading.The architectural desi89、gn of the Art Museum building has been taken from three fluid petals around a central foyer atri-um space.The three petal forms contain the gallery spaces at the various levels of the buildings.At the joining points of these petals there are three entrances to the building;1-the main entrance/exit f90、or the public,2 VIP drop-off/entry point and 3-an access to the external exhibition plaza(Cultural Plaza).The Atrium acts as the focal point of the museum and as a gathering space,which directs the public to galleries,it also can hold artworks.There are three vertical circulation cores taking place 91、within the three legs holding the three petals,those cores take the public to the upper levels.At the top level 4,there are additional two stairs to access the high level viewing platforms,which have panoramic views of the city,the festival island,the lake and the mountains beyond.The gallery spaces92、 vary in size,shape and location.The Big Box with its large volume and ground level 1 access requirements has been designed as a simple pure rectangular shape to assure maximum display flexibility.At a first floor balcony level and through a glass floor at level 4,the public can get glimpses of the 93、big box.A flexible exhibition space was required at ground level 1 so the applied arts gallery is located.The Special Exhibitions galleries are situated on the floor level 2,the Global Platforms with the China Hunan galleries on level 3 and the Permanent Collection gallery on level 4.On levels 3 and94、 4 the gallery shapes have rooflights with the possibility of having indirect natural light to the exhibition spaces.The external skin faade consists of rain-screen panel cladding(of either GRC or coated metal).An advantage of adopting these materials allow for 3-dimensional shaping of the faade.Som95、e of the solid cladding will be perforated for views out of the building where necessary.Other main materials will be glazing coverage at terrace levels,rooflights and the main atrium skylight.In coordination with GCAM,the exhibition consultants on the technical and programming aspects of the buildi96、ng has been undertaken to deliver a total construction floor area(CFA)of 31,634 square-metres(which includes 11,800m2 of exhibition gallery spaces),the building accommodates the exhibition areas,the reception facilities including the atrium space,a retail unit and counters,cafs at ground and roof le97、vels,a 200 seat auditorium,an education centre,VIP meeting rooms,Museum administration,an art library centre and a basement with all the technical facilities level of clarity within a suitable re151、verberant field for all the audi-ence-seating areas for all performance types.This will enable the audience to easily hear detail of singers dic-tion,and also the detail of musical textures.All seats can be acoustically excellent.For performances with a full sized symphony orchestra,either in the pi152、t or on the main stage,a rich full sound quality is required.This is achieved by designing the auditorium with a full reverberation time.Variable acoustic features will reduce the reverberation to suit amplified events.?Acoustic Clarity?Useful reflections can be created from the wall surfaces.These 153、provide early lateral energy to the listener.Sound arriving at the sides of the audience increases the sense of being surrounded in the musical event.This is highly desirable especially for symphonic performances and concerts with a large orchestra.The first order wall reflec-tions are planned for t154、he Changsha Grand Theatre.The sidewalls of the auditorium have been shaped to provide good coverage of the stalls seats with early re-flected sound.For theatrical performances where the voice is important reflections arriving at the audience from above assist in localizing the sound and adding clari155、ty.The use of a variable forestage reflector is of great benefit.Reverberation?The sense of reverberation in the theatre is determined in the design process by creating a sufficient room vol-ume and controlling the amount and distribution of the acoustic absorption.The largest contribution to acoust156、ic absorption in any performing venue is from the seats and the audience.A full sound quality is developed by de-signing a generous volume in the auditorium to balance the absorption of the seats and the audience.Amplified Uses?The reverberation time of the Grand Theatre will be reduced for smaller 157、scale musical events,and performances requiring amplification.This will enable a more intimate sound
