leader in the telecommunications industry marketplace,plans to construct a new R&D Technical Center in Suzhou,China.The site,located within the Suzhou Industrial Park,is surrounded by water,the Wusong River to the north3、,east and south and the Zongsi River to the west,providing an ideal landscape for Huaweis newest campus.Inspired by the native landscape,the campus will be elevated on a podium projecting Huaweis industry leading stature and affording its employees a secure and enriching atmosphere to conduct their 4、work.The architectural vocabulary for the campus celebrates and reinterprets the permanence and stability of the classical style into a modern high-tech science park.Project ScopeThe total site area is 432,501 sm.The design of the campus will comprise of 14 buildings plus gate houses for a total are5、a of 644,000 sm.The total area includes above the platform of 339,356 sm and below platform of 308,606 sm.Based on the current design approximately 12,000 people will occupy the main facilities,with offices,laboratories and amenities.The office and laboratory workspace has been planned as flexible a6、nd generic as the departmental occupants of the Tech center have not yet been determined by Huawei.In addition to the offices and labs the campus will providing supporting facilities to satisfy the mission of the Tech Center.A level T3+Data Center,Centralized Labs,central utility plant,employee amen7、ities and structured parking for 3,500 employee vehicles and bicycles comprise the projects overall area.The bulk of the supporting facilities will reside in the shared services podium that anchors the building to the site and elevates the mission critical offices,labs and data center in a park-like8、 setting with commanding views over the landscape.This approach toward site development ensures that Huaweis goal of creating a sustainable environment for its Suzhou base can be met.Presently the project is targeting a 1 star Green EXECUTIVE SUMMARY8Design ProcessTogether with Huawei,HDR/WSP has engaged in a collaborative design process that11、 seeks to achieve the highest quality and build consensus among the Projects stakeholders.To that end,a series of monthly workshops with Huawei managers,experts and executives and the Local Design Institute have taken place.The objective of each workshop is to vette alternative design proposals and 12、bring recommendations to the Executive team for approval.In addition to the monthly workshops,independent expert and preliminary government reviews have been conducted to ensure that Huaweis quality and compliance objectives are being met in a timely fashion.To date,the project team has meet with st13、ructural and MEP engineering experts,Suzhou authorities from the Planning and Fire Bureaus and the Architectural experts.In addition,a series of weekly videoconferences have been conducted with Huawei to give first hand insight to the developing design.Doing so has allowed Huawei the ability to moni14、tor progress and guide the design from the earliest stages of its development.Project ScheduleThe current overall schedule for the project indicates the completion of Schematic Design by August 15th.The Preliminary Design phase will commence thereafter following a period of Huawei expert review of t15、he 100%Schematic Design deliverable.In keeping with governmental commitments,the main entry gatehouses for the project have been placed on an accelerated parallel timeline.The gatehouse was submitted for Planning Bureau approval in mid-March in support of a planned construction start by July 15th bu19、ilt form.The design is derived from a simple square,developing variety,interest and richness as it unwinds to form the wall of a podium,elevating the entire complex above the ground raised to be seen.Further enhancing its significance,multiple buildings of various but complementary forms create a se20、nse of openness views to the surrounding natural environment.The design incorporates water,gardens,woods,courtyards,parklands and meadows to both symbolically and literally intertwine the natural with the built environment.The enormity of the endeavor is humanized through clarity of Russian architecture in particular the Kremlin,Winter and Sum23、mer Palaces has influenced this design in its scale,its beauty,its simple but precise form,and its elevated and imposing presence.The square form lends itself to inner courtyardsalso found in Neo-classical Russian architecturethat serve as protected sanctuaries,bringing nature into the geometry of t24、he exterior structure.The to enrich life through communication is excellence and consistency;also inherent qualities of this complex but cohesive design.Radiating from the center of the square building are lines of sigh26、t to the natural surroundings with the built environment thoughtfully protecting these view corridors while engaging the views outward.The cohesiveness of the square is further developed as it unwinds to form a wall enclosing the plinth on which the entire complex is raised.The prominence and honest27、y of the design all speak of integrity:Huaweis most valuable asset and core value.We embrace the of Chinaprovides a prominent peninsula for the site of the new facility.To enhance the impressive setting,our design is elevated on a plinth created by the“unwinding”of the centr29、al square building.The design also incorporates water in its natural form as well as in a man-made ponds and fountains.Although a modern city,Suzhou does have artifacts from ancient China.In much the same the cohesive shape of a squar31、e,the site is developed to create openness through breaking the complex into multiple buildings that respect and enhance views to the surrounding environment,as well as by creating open space between and inside buildings.The wall that defines the podium is reminiscent of the red wall that wraps the 32、Kremlin.精致立面设计借助外立面的不同表现方式,打造不同类型的建筑从简洁到富有层次。最经典的建筑是正方形,实体外立面,采用经典设计比例与建筑语汇。庭院中央是树林或丛林。包围着正方形建筑的其他建筑形式简洁,以场地的几何形状为基础,从庭院中心向四周辐射,景观视线也向外扩展。外立面色彩和装饰多样化,打造经久不衰的经典。餐厅参照冬宫设计,外立面简洁丰富,下部是优美的花园。坐落在大广场上的塔楼参照克里姆林宫教堂的设计,作为周围区域的雕塑/地标性元素。Articulated FacadeProgressing through the site,the building types are diffe33、rentiated through the articulation of their facades from simple massing to multi-layered and through their form.The most classic building is square,with its faade articulated of solids and voids using the proportions and vocabulary of classic design.A woods or“bosque”defines the center of the courty34、ard.The simple forms of the buildings surrounding it are based on the geometry of the site,radiating from the center of the courtyard,to exploit the views outward.The variety of facades,in both color and articulation,recreates the richness of the time-honored classics that have preceded them.The caf35、eteria building is reminiscent of the Winter Palace,with a simple,richly articulated raised faade above a colorful formal garden.Towers set on a large public plaza reminiscent of the churches within the Kremlin become sculptural objects,or landmarks,that can be seen from the surrounding ExperienceSet on a37、 podium with geometry developed form the cohesive shape of a square,the site is developed to create openness through breaking the complex into multiple buildings that respect and enhance views to the surrounding environment,as well as by creating open space between and inside buildings.The podium en38、ables the inspiring landscape above while providing an interconnected support services structure below which includes transportation,materials handling and utility infrastructure.The wall that defines the podium is reminiscent of the red wall that wraps the Kremlin and reinforces the oneness of Huaw39、eis presence in Suzhou.The built environment is based on classic principles of proportion and scale in deference to the human form,to give it a sense of timeless 东部沿海,位于北亚热带湿润季 风气候区内,夏季气温较高,潮 湿多雨,冬季干燥寒冷,季风明 显,四季分明,自然条件优越,气 候资源丰富。年平均气15.7 ,年日照时数1787.9小时,年降水量 1018.6毫米。园区位于苏州市工业园区内,整个地块四面环水,北面,东面和 南面面临吴凇江,西临纵四河,地 块由规划道路新四东路和新华路与区内其他地块相通。植被繁茂,生态环境优越,自然风貌条件好。SiteThe project is located in Suzhou,which is on the eas41、t coast of China and has a monsoon-influenced subtropical climate,with four distinct seasons,hot and humid in the summer,dry and cold in the winter.There are favorable natural conditions and abundant natural resources.The annual average temperature is 15.7C,with an average of 1787.9 hours of sunshin42、e and 1018.6 mm of precipitation.The campus is located within the Suzhou Industrial Park,surrounded by water,with Wusong River in the north,east,and south,and Zongsi River in the west.The site will be connected by the Xinsi Road(planning),Xinhua Road(planning),and other roads in the Park.The vegetat43、ion is lush,the eco-environment is good,and the natural landscape is beautiful园区规划与设计 SpaceThe landscape design incorporates a variety of major green spaces types woven into the overall building fabric of the complex.In addition to the natural riverside public parkland that surrounds the site,woodland spaces are planned to frame and focus 46、views to and from the majestic building podium.Formal garden spaces along the western side of the site create garden spaces between each of the three entry gatehouses.Large groves of trees,meandering waterways,and walking paths create wonderful walk paths between these garden spaces.On the eastern s47、ide of the main building complex,woodland planting and large meadow areas also frame views outward towards the river as it wraps the edge of the parklands.On the building podium large open plaza spaces are filled with wonderful green spaces that create the main connections between the various buildi48、ngs.Lush flowing courtyards between the building clusters provide connection to nature at a more intimate scale.Water is used on around the site and becomes the counter point to buildings,fountains and pools of various sizes and shapes are located all across the campus.Wherever possible lush green p49、lanting are placed to bring nature into the design,just as found in the many courtyard gardens of Suzhou.Surrounding the complex are natural parklands;the organic natural environment complementing the linearity of the built environment.Green Space TypologiesThe design incorporates a variety of green50、 spaces woven into the built fabric of the complex.In addition to the central woods,or bosque,contained within the dominant square building,gardens between buildings provide open space and views to the surrounding area.Within these buildings,internal courtyards provide a connection to nature at a mo51、re intimate scale.Lush formal gardens line the entrance“allee”and continue to become both the view and to provide outdoor dining from the cafeteria.A large,mostly paved central plaza contains plantings and trees,as well as corresponding large sculpture,another play between the built and natural form52、.Surrounding the complex are natural parklands;the organic natural environment exterior lighting of the site is designed to be viewed from various distances.From afar,the site will appear as a busy and rad54、iant city with the surrounding wall clearly outlining the extent of the site and with Building A1 rising above the rest as a glowing beacon.As one approaches the site,details will begin to come into focus.Glowing arches will clearly draw visitors into the main entrance guiding them up the ramp and i55、nto the podium level.Upon entering the podium level,visitors will begin to experience the minute details of the site.A visitor will be drawn to the glowing facades and hardscapes as well as the features and artwork in the main plaza.Intimately lit courtyard spaces will provide a place for one to sit56、 and work or StrategyThe Tech Center will be served by various amenity functions located throughout the site and include large facilities such as the Food S98、ervice canteens,the Conference and Training Center and the Sports and Cultural Center,which will serve the overall population,as well as smaller,retail services such as coffee bars that can provide a more personal-level of service.The Food Service canteens will be distributed among three separate lo99、cations rather than centralized into a single Canteen facility.Located in Buildings B1,C1 and D3,the canteens are within a three-minute walk from any point on the campus and will act as major destinations for Huawei staff to encourage movement among the different quadrants.The separate canteens will100、 allow greater flexibility for the Food Service vendors to provide a range of menu and service choices as well as a variety of dining experiences.Similarly,the smaller,retail coffee bars will be distributed among the entrance lobbies of the spaces types woven into the overall building fabric of the complex.In addition to the natural riverside public parkland that surrounds the site,woodland spaces are planned to frame and focus views to and from the majestic building po173、dium.Formal garden spaces along the western side of the site create garden spaces between each of the three entry gatehouses.Large groves of trees,meandering waterways,and walking paths create wonderful walk paths between these garden spaces.On the eastern side of the main building complex,woodland 174、planting and large meadow areas also frame views outward towards the river as it wraps the edge of the parklands.On the building podium large open plaza spaces are filled with wonderful green spaces that create the main connections between the various buildings.Lush flowing courtyards between the bu175、ilding clusters provide connection to nature at a more intimate scale.Water is used on around the site and becomes the counter point to buildings,fountains and pools of various sizes and shapes are located all across the campus.Wherever possible lush green planting are placed to bring nature into th176、e design,just as found in the many courtyard gardens of Suzhou.Surrounding the complex are natural parklands;the organic natural environment complementing the linearity of the built environment.绿色空间景观设计引入了多种绿色空间元素,并把它 们合理地交织在建筑的机理之中。除了场地周围天然的滨河公共绿地,我们还围绕基座规划了一些林地,借以烘托基座上的建筑。场地西侧三个门房之间规划有规整的园林。步道穿过树林177、和蜿蜒的水道,把这些园林连接起来。在主建筑群东侧,林地与草坪构成滨河框景。基座层巨大的广场开放空间遍布绿地,形成各建筑之间的主要连接。各建筑群之间的庭院以更亲切的尺度拉近了与大自然的距离。场地内采用水景作为建筑对景。大小形状不一的喷泉和水池在园区里随处可见。只要条件允许,就尽量安排绿化,把大自然带入设计,就像苏州园林那样。建筑周围是天然林地,有机天然的环境刚好与线性建筑环境相得益彰。138场地设计SITE DESIGN138Site DesignMain Gate House Entry PlazaThe symmetrical design of the main gate house en178、try plaza and arrival area,integrates the public right of way with the site to provide a grand entrance to the campus.The gate house resides on axis with the main public road and is the central architectural element that defines and creates the boundaries for the landscape spaces.To the south side o179、f the gatehouse along the western edge of the site is a visitor car park area totaling 46 spaces.This parking area is constructed of concrete paving with granite curbing.A central water feature with waterfall element that cascades into a clear pool is intended to act as a driveway dividing element t180、o slow traffic upon arrival to the site.This water feature will also contain signage that will be integrated into the design of the wall at the eastern side of the pool.North of the gatehouse is also garden space with a geometric pool and stepping stones that“float”above the smooth water surface.Thi181、s pond will balance the form of the parking area on the other side of the main gate house.Natural stone veneer will cover the surfaces of the pool keeping in the tradition of Suzhou garden design with classic appeal to keep in style with the architecture of the gate house.Site walls and fencing will182、 engage the gate house along the edges,act to provide enclosure and security at the extents of the parking and align with the property line as well as closure to the gatehouse.Fine metal man gates and vehicular gating will control as well as,provide access to the site beyond and the podium building 183、levels.Main vehicular traffic to the podium will flow under the main gate house arch to the bridge,ramp element which will raise visitors and VIPs to the upper levels of the podium.Vehicular and walking paved surfaces will be of stone to denote travel paths and slower traffic speeds.Special paving w184、ill guide visitors from the car park to badging,waiting areas at the gate house.These paving patterns will capture the buildings mass and accentuating the classic architecture.Other minor pathways,constructed of concrete,lead to the other gatehouses and responds in kind but at a smaller scale to fit the space and is defined by the function of the location.Front Yard Garden Along the entire front area between the gatehouses are rolling lush landscape massing of trees,shrubs and groundcovers,that provide a foreground t192、o soften the appearance of the metal fencing along the campus property line.This rhythm of landscape provided a foreground edge for the landscape inside the site boundarys.The space between the perimeter of the sites western edge and the podium contains on its central access the main ramp or bridge 193、to the buildings podium levels.The entrance ramp is lined with ornamental tress to provide color shade and scale when rising up to the podium plaza levels.Flanking the main entrance ramp are two ponds that flow away from the center of the entry garden space one to the north the other to the south.Th194、ese meandering streams create the structure of the garden spaces as the water flows from the pond to small water bodies and wetlands and then ultimately to the discharge points of the river.These ponds and water features are intended to be utilized for the storm water system and also to hold and col195、lect rainwater for reuse in warmer times of the year.Several paved pathways cross the streams,the walkways are of various materials and widths to accommodate pedestrian,maintenance and vehicular traffic as needed.Several different types of space are created in and around the ponds and streams.Open t196、urf grass areas,bosques of trees,wildflower meadows,and high canopy forested areas all make up the front yard garden space.The other dominate element of the front yard are the landscape berms that create the visual earth podium on which the R&D Center rises from.The berm landscape itself is almost that have entrances off of this courtyard area.The multi-level pool has cascading water elements with fountains and bubblers that can be controlled and lighted for special events,or the upper pool can remain calm and clear to refle204、x the sky.Stone edges of granite create the basin for the water feature and also the many cascades that happen along all the edges of transition from the upper to landscape designs are focused on the tower.While intended to be quite and intimate spaces to be view from the various building that surround each area,they also have individual elements that make them unique.Area B has organic sculpted seati218、ng areas along the main circulation paths and open green space and plaza space that can be used as addition outdoor dining space.Smaller light well illuminate the parking circulation below with natural daylight.Area C contains the largest tower and is above the largest parking area.Flowing and curvi219、ng organic landscape bed and mounded earth forms the frame work for hidden pocket seating area as well as spaces plaza.Because of its size large canopy tree in raise planting areas are provided in this area.Area D also contains a special building for vertical circulation from the below grade parking220、 area.While not a tower and or central to the courtyard it does provide scenic views to the east of the campus overlooking the river.The focal point of the Area D courtyard is a sunken amphitheater and stage area accessible via stairs and ramping.This long elliptical space provides a different feel 221、between the large courtyard buildings.Again multilayer lush landscape planting surround this major landscape feature.All of the courtyards while different all contain similar water feature element.A circular fountain also anchors each courtyard of these three courtyard spaces.All are of similar scal222、e but still unique in details and design.Again water is a focal point counter to the tower and the natural organic shaping of the green area,and a key element of Suzhou garden walkway,day lit from above,provides a clear pathway leading to the escalators and elevators to the upper level.In conformance with building code requirements,the par261、king structure will be mechanically ventilated to ensure the health and well-being of the occupants.B.Bus DepotThe bus stops are distributed along the bus tunnel on the parking level.There are four stops altogether to provide convenient access for employee to get to their building.Two of them are in262、tegrated into the building above podium;the other two exits bring people to the plaza through circulation covered by a glass pavilion,which allows people to go to different campus areas from there.At each bus stop,three escalators and one grand stair case bring people up to podium level in the morni263、ng,or take people down to the parking level in the afternoon.Running direction of the escalators can be switched when needed.Size and quantity of the escalators is calculated based on the assumption that 70%of the employees take a bus to the campus.The design of the two exit pavilions adopts the sha264、pe of classical building,but uses modern architecture material glass to introduce natural light into the parking garage,together with the other light wells distributed across the Podium.The round footprint of the pavilions is integrated into the organic shape of landscape design for the plazas and c265、ourtyards.C.Materials HandlingThe Podium provides the unique opportunity to service the R&D buildings from below removing the clutter of loading docks from being seen.A network of material service pathways elevated above the car parks provides a connection from the main loading dock(s)to each of the266、 buildings above.Storage and staging areas have been provided adjacent to the north and south loading docks to enable motorized carts to pick up and deliver supplies to the labs above.D.Central Utility PlantAfter much study,the Central Utility Plant(CUP)has been located in the southwest corner of th267、e Podium in close proximity to the Central Labs and the Data Center which together generate a significant portion of the overall utility load.This location provides adequate headroom within the Podium to support the CUPs equipment needs.Additionally,this location allows the required cooling towers t268、o be placed in the preferred location on site minimizing the visual impact of their developed in keeping with the Kremlin precedent.This system of varied color and articulation sets up a hierarchy of buildings while maintaining a level of consistency across the 320、campus.There are three faade types ranging in level of detail and articulation.The Main Administration Building(A1)has been identified as the most grand of all the buildings(Type A)with its overall scale and monumental colonnade.The R&D buildings will have either a simple punched window faade(Type C321、)with minimal articulation or a more elaborate multi-layered faade(Type B)leading up to the grand Main Building.Following is a detailed description of each of the faade types beginning with the simplest:Entrance Lobby Interior DesignWith the powerful stature and character established by the Neo-Clas322、sical architecture of the campus,it is important to develop an interior design concept for the Entrance Lobby of each building that reinforces the classical spirit of the architecture but also reveals the purpose of the building and the qualities of the overall interior environment.To examine the in323、terior design potential of the Entrance Lobby spaces,the Lobbies for Buildings A1,D3 and B5 were selected as the lobby-design prototypes for their respective building typologies as described above.The interior design concepts for the three Entrance Lobbies are directly influenced by the exterior des324、ign of the A1,D3 and B5 buildings to create a strong visual connection between the interior and exterior that promotes a feeling of unity,clarity and arrival when entering the DESIGN258标准研发楼 TYPICAL R&D BUILDINGSSimple Facade ArticulationBuilding B5 is an example of the least327、 articulated faade Type C displaying simple massing with monolithic walls and punched windows.Other Type C buildings on the site are B1,B4 and D1.The B5 building sits proudly at the main motor court entry to the site and forms the right hand flank of the entry plaza.It is the main entry to the B Qua328、drant buildings and users are able to pass through the central entry lobby of this building easily to the landscaped courtyard which serves as the node for all the B Quadrant buildings.The overall character of the building conveys solidity and is reminiscent of the strength required at the entry of 329、a major campus.Furthermore,the building form and detail is reflective of Russian Neo-Classical architecture of the early 20th Century and its design elements follow principles of classical architecture which serve to provide a sense of stability and endurance.The base of the building is anchored to 330、the site by a continuous solid stone plinth wall which encloses all of the entry level of the building.Windows are punched through this wall to provide valuable light and ventilation to the internal spaces.The main entry is via three large inviting archways forming an entry colonnade in which the gl331、azed entry doors are set back giving weather protection.The entry faade is stated by a centralised roof pediment and solid stone finished perimeter pilasters to reinforce the building entry.The faade has a bold colour palette and its detail is prominent yet restrained in relief.The walls of the buil332、ding are finished in coloured stucco render which give the building both texture and a stimulating environment with its rich yellow-ochre colours.The windows are large in proportion for single punched windows in solid walls,and most are designed with arched heads providing a feeling of monumentality333、 for the occupants,and reminiscence of the stature of the past.The exterior wall construction is solid masonry with deeply set punched windows providing thermal efficiency with ample insulation and vapor barrier.The North and South faade orientation of the B5 building on the site maximises the faade exposure to sunlight.The depth of the perimeter walls allows deeper placement of the windows thereb
