capital of 6 dynasties.However during the early 20thcentury,it suffered almost total destruction during the Japaneseoccupation and civil war after that.But with the sheer determination,love for their city and resourcefulnes16、s of the government and itspeople,it has developed over the last 60 years to become one of the major cities along the Chang Jiang Delta with a population of 7million.It is also home to one of the highest no of higher learning institutions percapital in China.Throughout the miraculous development/tra17、nsformation from a almost empty city 60 years ago to a modern city of 7 million today,ithas preserved and created large green lungs(the famous 4 green lungs of Jiangxin Zhou,Mufu Yanziji,Zhongshan Scenic Area andYuhua Tai Scenic Area)with smaller parks and open spaces and greening the major roads to18、 turn the city into a clean and probably themost greencity in China.This demonstrated its peoples love for their environment and their desire to live with nature.NJ 水文状况水文状况岛内拥有大量河道、水塘,水系总长度约40km左右,共计有贯通性河道11条,水域总面积约135公顷。洲岛东部中段沿夹江分布有较多水塘,西部沿长江分布有湿地,其余以灌溉河道水系为主。流通性较差,易受内涝和长江洪水威胁。河道主要起排涝和排污作用,水塘是农业灌溉的水源。沿长江边及夹江水域与携带血吸虫的钉螺限制了亲水活动。环岛以防洪堤隔绝洪水,防洪标40、准为百年一遇。1.3Natural ConditionsHydrologyThereareabout 40km of waterways and ponds spread throughoutthe island occupying an areaof approximately 135 ha.The waterways and ponds are generally not connected which limit water circulation,resulting in very bad water quality in mostareasespecially those with 41、human settlements.Thesewaterways and ponds are used as:RetentionpondsIrrigationfor the surrounding farmlandsGenerally well protected wetlands along the western side fronting CJ except on the southern tip of the island where a resort wasdeveloped recently.Blood sucking bacteria are found in the 植被状况植被状况洲内植物以农作物为主,季节性较强,植被生态价值不高,生物多样性较低。农作物以葡萄、韭菜、小品种蔬菜及林果等农作物为主。葡萄作物主要分43、布在中北部,种植面积约4,000亩;韭菜主要分布在中部面大江地区,种植面积约3,000亩;小品种蔬菜主要分布在洲头和洲尾,种植面积约2,000亩;另有林果集中在洲头种植,种植面积约1,000亩。洲内珍稀植物种类较少,但仍有分布,大多为人工栽植。有国家重点保护植物5种,分别是银杏(国家I级)、水杉(国家I级)、杜仲(国家II级)、凹叶厚朴(国家II级)、野大豆(国家级)。洲内湿地主要为堤外滩涂湿地,沿堤面大江分布,总面积约118.7公顷。湿地面积受长江水位变化的影响,季节性较强。Existing woodland They are the main species of trees and are found along both sides of the western dyke and both tips of the island.The trees contribute widely to the biodiversity of the islands landscape and service that can be offered.Only a single direction service can be offered as both directions must be accommodated along this single section,rather than a loop being available as with other parts of the network.A tram system with a cap285、acity of 350 per tram and a frequency of 3 minutes will accommodate the peak AM demand.The central linking road also provides a potential bottleneck for traffic travelling around the island.The second road bridge is essential for safe access to the island.RecommendationsThe current planned network i286、s capable of accommodating the expected population.However every effort should be made to diversify the public transport which has a very high reliance on a single link.The higher number of different forms of transport encouraged the better for the development.This will prevent the development being287、 dominated by a single transport network and keep the green aesthetic.The water transport to the island would provide an additional mode of transport,avoiding surrounding congestion by using the river corridor.This form of transport has excellent potential for use with tourism to the island.The tram288、 and MRT are busy in the morning peak period,a green bus service should be promoted on the island.Green buses are extremely flexible in terms of routing and have a comparatively low infrastructure cost in comparison to tram networks.They are also capable of being tailored to suit individual companie289、s in terms of routes.The single central road linking the north of the development to the south has been shown to be capable of carrying the expected development traffic.Further analysis of the public transport network has shown that further expansion would be best accommodated by using buses or some290、 alternative rather than the tram system.This is partly due to the layout of the track.Whilst the MRT and road bridges have been demonstrated to be capable of carrying demand to the island,this does not take into account and pass through traffic.The island in the long term is expected to link to bot291、h sides of the river.This will bring additional demand that should be explored at the detailed design
