that skyli93、ghts of any type or orientation will not be able to provide sufficient light.Therefore,we recommend using supplemental artificial lighting to allow for plant growth.We recommend the provision of Quartz-metal halide(coated metal halide,or metalarc-coated)lighting.For any tall,tree-like plantings,we r94、ecommend a minimum of 500 foot-candles.Some typical tall plantings might include Ficus benjamina(weeping fig tree),Bucida buceras(black olive tree),or Bamboo.Higher light levels in the range of 500 to 750 foot candles may be required if there is consideration of larger trees such as palms.For other 95、lower level plantings,we would recommend a minimum of 250 foot-candles.Lighting should be provided for a minimum duration of 16 hours with 8 hours of darkness.The combination of photoperiods(light and no light)is a necessary to maintain plant growth,respiration,and transpiration.During periods of da96、rkness,minimal lighting should be provided only to CONCEPT DESIGNInterior Planting Notes室内植栽提要HVAC RequirementsThe interior plants,since they are usually tropical in origin,typically require fairly high h98、umidity levels.We recommend that the planting area humidity be maintained between 40%to 45%.This may require isolating the Atrium HVAC system from the rest of the building.We recommend maintaining the planting area temperature between 65 and 85F with a drop of no more than 10F at night from the dayt99、ime level.Significant fluctuation in temperature between night and day as well as between seasons can be detrimental to plant survival.Temperatures should be maintained consistently at all levels of the planting area.“Layerying”of hot and cool air vertically within the atrium is especially dangerous100、 for interior plants.Air spaces should also be carefully designed to avoid dead air pockets near skylights or window walls,as these can become too hot or too cold and can damage the foliage.Since plants require both oxygen and carbon dioxide(CO2)for to complete photosynthesis,we recommend that outsi101、de air be incorporated into the HVAC system for the atrium area.This may require some warming or cooling of the air before it is introduced into the atrium area.Cold blasts of air from outside doors or vents will cause damage to plant foliage.Most plants are very sensitive to poor air quality during102、 and immediately after building construction when chemical pollutants from paint and carpeting are most prevalent.Dust from drywall work is also harmful toplants.Therefore,we caution you to plan for these issues when scheduling final plant compacti105、on,we recommend that strong consideration be given to providing an automatic watering system for the interior plants.While automatic systems are more expensive,they are less intrusive to the operations of a building and are better suited to plants located along hard to reach or overhanging areas.If 106、hand watering is to be considered,hose bibs or box hydrants should be carefully located so that hoses will not impede pedestrian flows.We recommend a maximum 50 foot spacing for hose bibs to ensure adequate access to plants.Be sure to provide storage areas if hand watering is to be considered since 107、special equipment and hoses will need to be placed within easy reach of the maintenance
