35、divides the urban area into 5 zones:OldTown,New City,F1 Circuit,ECO Park, and New Industrial Area.Greenbuffers are proposed between the zones.New City will be the central districtof Jiading in the future.Jiading old town shows the typical vernacular canal town framework southYangtze river. There are a36、lso several well preserved historical gardens inJiading district, including Guyi Garden in Nanxiang,Qiuxia Garden andConfucius Temple in Jiading.Existing canal network is well connected with major canals, with smallvillages built along the canals. The ponds are scattered around the canal.Small canals a37、re used for irrigation. The pattern of the farmland shows the typical agriculture system convertedfrom wetlands, using unmanaged flood irrigation system to buildindependent ponds and using storm water for irrigation. The new town will have a population of 155,500 with 6,700,000 sq.m.ofresidential devel38、opment and 3,200,000 sq.m.of commercial and otherdevelopments. The basic strategies include:the existing canals are to bepreserved and enhanced as core open spaces;the new landscape axis is tobe created in the core of the New City connecting the green buffer withYuanxiang Lake;high density developmen39、ts are located around the majoropen spaces and to the north of the site, low density developments arelocated to the northwest of the site and around Yuanxiang Lake the park, and all the traffic are to bedirected to the art56、ery roads to cross the park,as the local streets are toprovide access to land parcels, not to bear the transportation capacity. At places where the artery roads cross the park, various strategies areapplied to create a continuous large green space throughout. At Wen QuanRoad and Sheng Xin Road where the57、 road elevation change is highlyrestricted due to the sophisticated infrastructure around, overheadpedestrian bridge/wildlife corridors are created to connect the Fitness Zonewith Community Zone and the green buffer on the in the wetland and canal to thesouth. The plants selected in this area are productive as well as ornamental.Playgrounds, plazas and flexible spaces for dancing, small scale sports, individual and group
