Chengdu,capital of Sichuan Province,the project is a dense,multifunctional complex of about 102,000sqm located in the city s new CBD.It consists of a 53,000sqm office tower,a 32,000sqm 4-star hotel and a 27,000sqm sho16、pping area.The five crystalsThe main idea of the building are the five crystals,three-dimensional,free-flowing pavilions in-between the office tower and the resort hotel.The crystals-each having its own architectural colorful treatment and material-embody the virtues and diversity of Chengdus cultur17、al and civic life and its natural resources.The jewels represent Dynamic People(gold),“World-renowned Sichuan Cuisine”(frosted glass),“Traditional Heritage”(copper),“Natural Resources”(wood),and“Technological Advancement”(aluminum).The themes of these pavilions symbolize the long history of the city18、 and most importantly its people.Placed inside and outside of the building,they not only blur the boundaries of interior and exterior space,they also connect seamlessly to the crystals of the adjacent plot to the east.The two towersWith the crystals playing the identifying role for the project,the t19、wo towers stand in a suspenseful juxtaposition to each other.Whereas the office tower symbolizes Chengdus thriving business world,the hotel complex stands for Chengdus well-known leisure culture of teahouses,restaurants and gardens.The office tower with a height of 93 meter the higher of the two tow20、ers is the very formal,rational backdrop of the project to the north.In front of it,the flowing landscape of the hotel tower forms the counterpart to the office.In contrast to the office,the hotel figure generates a highly dynamic,recognizable silhouette that stretches out over the full southern sid21、e like a mountain range.Its main element,a landscaped garden ramp with a sculpture park opens up and connects the hotel to the boulevard allowing the greenbelt to naturally flow onto the ramp and into the building.The garden rampThe garden ramp gradually elevates the visitor of the building from str22、eet-level providing great views over the greenbelt.Arriving at the end of the garden ramp at a height of 11 meters,the visitor has direct access to the elevated hotel lobby and the jewels on the third floor.By blurring the distinction between high and low,inside and outside,the garden ramp becomes a23、 natural extension of the building.Economic FeasibilityThe five crystals and the garden ramp are important tools for the economic sustainability of the project:In the first couple of years while the urban fabric of Chengdus New Town is still being built,the crystals inside the complex will become th24、e major draw of the project attracting people from all of Chengdu.Once the urban context is more mature,buildings have sprung up around it,and there is more of a localized pedestrian flow within the new city center,the embracing gesture of the garden ramp will additionally bring people into the comp25、lex further enhancing the projects feasibility.Accessibility Office,hotel,and shopping are given individual vehicular drop-offs and easy access to above and underground parking by a small one-way street that circles the building.This internal street can be accessed and exited from the northern and e26、astern newly planned roads.Parking ramps feeding into this street are designed to minimize and efficiently organize traffic within the site.The office towerThe two-story lobby of the office feature a separate drop-off to the north.Its lobby is also connected to the first floor retail.The typical flo27、or layouts are highly flexible.Two layouts,a more western approach and a traditional Chinese office configuration are possible.The tower is clad in a simple,yet sophisticated curtain wall.To make the building more sustainable,a cantilevered louver system to the south and the west provides shading fr28、om the sun.The 4-star hotelThe hotel is split into three masses,a lower western element featuring suites,a higher eastern one with regular rooms and a multistory atrium as a connector in-between.The hotel has a separate vehicular drop-off in front of the main entrance on the first floor.A lift conne29、cts up to the elevated hotel lobby and bar on the third floor where the guests will enter into a two-story glass atrium overlooking the boulevard that also has direct access to the retail and the garden ramp.The hotel features a swimming pool on the fourth floor,a beauty spa on the fifth floor,confe30、rence facilities on the 9th and 10th floors and a terraced garden area
