NATURAL surround-ings and HISTORY,making it one of the most important tourism centers of China.Long r2、ecognized as a historic“Renaissance”city,Tianjin was one of the earliest cities in China to introduce Western cultures and in creating a city culture of its own with both Chinese and Western charac-ter.Today,Tianjin has transitioned as a city on the move,expe-riencing rapid successful GROWTH and in 3、leading as one of the nations most MODERN HUBS.At the forefront of this movement is the citys area of Binhai,framing the global prowess of the country along the coastal waters of the Bohai Sea.Now,the city faces the threshold of another transition,one that seeks to strike a BALANCE between its surro4、unding natural environment and history with a modern-day lifestyle and activity.Located east of Tianjins historic city center,along the regions northern ecological corridor and adjacent to Binhai,Tianjin Eco-City will represent a new type of bench-mark that will define socially responsible and ecolo5、gical sensitive development;from its unique Eco-Valley corridor,multi-modal transportation connectivity,to sustainable thinking of its Eco-Cell communities,restoration of native wastes.”The larger they become the more dependent they are on the surround-ing land and greater their vulnerability to change around them.Modern cities consume of the worlds energy and produce of its pollution.They are like parasites on t31、he land using valuable land and natural resources at an alarming rate.Cities operate at a very high metabolic rate.Todays cities operate in a linear fashion where resources such as energy,foods and goods flow in while organic wastes,emissions and inorganic wastes flow into our rivers,landfills and a32、ir.It is this approach to city development which fueled city growth in the past in the US and Europe regardless of differences in social and demographic patterns.With rising fuel costs,energy consumption,population and decline,leaders of these communities are now forced to adopt more sustainable pat33、terns of growth.These cities have observed:-Market driven development leads to zoned cities with district land use plans divided by roads,making the dependence of the automobile necessary.-Compact cities create complex overlapping land uses that minimize sprawl,enhance social and economic vitality,w34、hile creating a dynamic and robust public environment.-The private motorcar and infatuation of an automobile culture has encour-aged sprawl,leading to needless urban pollution that continues in fueling future sprawl.-An integrated transportation system which promotes a wide variety of mobility choic35、es;from car,bus,metro,cycle and pedestrian is key to creating a rich and dynamic public realm.-Growing cities encroach on the forest and green fields thus increasing urban sprawl.-Parks and open spaces must be integrated into city growth to provide relief and encourage the reforestation and restorat36、ion of our natural environments for the greater benefit of our urban ones.-The globalization of the world economy has led to the creation of samness to the commercial hearts of our cities;we must reinforce the local environment through the presentation of buildings,districts,cultural icons,natural a37、nd open spaces.We believe that the masterplan for Tianjin Eco-City offers a unique opportunity to achieve a sustainable and human-oriented urban and ecologically design led plan.We believe that this development can employ the principles of sustain-ability while providing a development project FACTS地理区位地地地地地地JING-JIN-TANG PYRAMID京津塘区域 Tianjin is located along the northern part of Chinas coastal region in the cen-ter of the Bohai Rim area and is 120 kilometers away from Beijing.The city boasts a modern international airport,the larg45、est manmade harbor in China,and is designated as a important key economic zone for the region.Current trends of development in Tianjin will see the city as a future:-International base for manufacturing,-International shipping center and airport hub in northern China,-International logistic and exhi46、bition center in northern China,-Regional service center of financial,trade,technology,information and education,-Historical city,featuring modern history,-Desired city with benign and unique ecological environments and amenities.As the largest city in the northern coastal area of China,Tianjin is a47、dministra-tively one of four municipalities with provincial-level status,reporting directly to the central government.Its urban area is the third largest in China,ranked only after Beijing and Shanghai.As part of the Jing-Jin-Tang Regional Development Triangle,Tianjin is one of Chinas fastest growin48、g metropolitans undergoing rapid modernization and development.The city is strategically situated at the mouth of the Bohai Bay and serves as the main port for industrial services in the region.The opening of the new high speed rail between Beijing and Tianjin has reduced travel time between the two49、 cities to under 30 minutes,further cementing the strong relationship between the city and the capital.Recently,the city has been becoming the back-of-house center for financial and commercial enterprises.Tianjins population is expected to continue in rising as a result of the citys wealth in natura50、l amenities which attract Chinas ever-growing affluent STRUCTURE&LAND-USE区域结构和土地利用Tianjins historic city center is located approximately 40 kilometers west of the Bohai S52、ea,with Binhai fronting along its coasts.These two areas are the citys main focus areas for financial exchange and knowledge capital resource investment,where it is intent from government policies to see continual urbanization along Haihe in reinforcing the two centers.A new southern port will creat53、e a dual“mega-port,”expanding manufacturing and modern service industries to the south and tourism offerings in the north.Tianjin Eco-City will be an important component in this transition of reinforc-ing Tianjins unique character as a garden ecological city.With a growing vertical-oriented job mark54、et,higher-class industries and business sectors,and increased market sophistication,Tianjin will see the continual rise of higher-educated/salaried residents,foreign expats and tourists looking for more“amenity-based”lifestyles and offerings.Structural relationship of the project is described as 1 A55、xis,3 Nodes,and 4 Gates.1 Axis being the sites unique Eco-Valley which connects to Binhai,the north ecological corridor,and the sea.3 Nodes being the CBD,Civic,and Expo/Eco-Research Zones within the site.4 Gates with:Urbanization from the South(Binhai),Ecology to the West(North Eco-Corridor),Hi-Tech56、 Industry to the North(Connection to Airport,TAIP,Cao Fei Dian),and Water to the East(Bohai VEHICULAR TRANSPORTATION区域车行交58、通Tianjin Eco-City is well positioned along many of the metropolitans important vehicular corridors,acting as an important visual and access point for the region.Jin-Han Expressway to the north links the site to Cao Fei Dian,Dongli Lake,TAIP,and the citys international airport.Binhai Boulevard to the59、 east and Tang Han to the West links the site to Binhai and Tanggu.Jing-Gang to the South would link to the ports.REGIONAL MASS TRANSPORTATION区域轨道交通Currently,the city of Tianjin is undergoing rapid modernization of its mass transportation network.The future of the city will see a modern and efficien60、t interconnected system that will see mass transportation as the primary means of circulating within the city.As a part of this movement,Tianjin Eco-City will boast a state-of-the-art LRT line with 8 stations which would tie residents and visitors to Binhai,the airport,and interchanges to the City C61、enter and High-Speed definition to the citys image and its urban corridors,-Front doors for communities,addresses for buildings,-Wayfi204、nding devices,leading people through the city and to places,-Provision of safety and security,reinforcing communal relationships,-Giving character and coherence for building frontages and uses,promoting attractiveness and usage,Creating a comfortable and dynamic public realm for people to enjoy and 205、interact.Simply stated,Great Streets are about bringing communities together,the local and global.In most cases however,road widths are over-emphasized,designed more as transportation solutions than as pedestrian and community spaces.The resulting pattern is a non-continuous street space network whe206、re building setbacks are placed too wide,the character of the community lost.Therefore it is important to recognize that streets are also urban and natural spaces,where the properly designed street can act as a Great Place in itself.Our design STRUCTURE景观和绿地系统Development for Tianjin Eco-City should be integrated with the landscape as opposed to dominating it.The proposed master-plan has identified landscape 220、features within the site which act as attractive settings for social interaction,along with sensitive ecological environments which need protection.The Eco-Island on the site acts as the Eco-Core for the project,reinforcing the characteristics of the Eco-Valley as an important green spine for the si221、te.The presence of several landscape environments extending throughout the site creates the opportu-nities to develop an green framework which links the coast,river,lake and wetlands as a series of ecological corridors that extend through the site.In this same way,within this framework our strategy 222、has included the development of the site as a garden environment and consistent with the“Eco-Valley”concept.The idea being that ecological corridors extend through the site from the rivers to the sea.City streets also create landscape and pedestrian green linkages to public parks and gardens,adding 223、an additional layer and richness to this system which,in addition to the setting of the site and the focus on the environmental protection of the area define Tianjin Eco-City as a green heart or viewing and more urban types of activities,to marinas and inner harbors for boats that allow romantic interludes,to intimate canals and channels that engage the nature as eco-corridors.The design of Tianjin Eco-Citys water system represents the sites advantages as well as dea237、ling with the water in a positive and programmatic fashion.Tianjin Eco-Citys water is about creating a lasting system which helps to restore,re-juvenate,and invigorate its residents and those who come to visit,along with providing a natural context for native habitat and fauna to SYSTEM水系统分析图Water found within Tianjin Eco-City is comprised of five dif-ferent types of water bodies that are designed as unique and memorable experiences which help to reinforce the robustness and overall identity of the site.The character in seasonable fluct240、uations and flow are considered.-Ji River Canal bordering along the western edge of the site,forms a confluence with the Yong Ding River(which defines the regions northern ecological corridor)to the south of the site.Water character changes more dramatically and is largely uncontrolled over the year241、.It is recommended that related activi-ties along its shores act more as greenways and vistas though boating can be allowed.-Historical Ji Canal forms a loop which courses through the heart of the site,defining the edges of the eco-island found in the site.This 1,000 year-old canal is an important e242、cological and historical part of the region.Water character is controlled by floodgates along the intersecting points with the Ji River Canal.It is recommended that limited trails and pathways occur along important ecological native habitats and vegetation,though is engaged as a useable amenity for 243、residents and visitors when bordering the Administrative/Civic,CBD,and Expo/Eco-Research districts of the site.-Qing Jing Lake is located within sites eco-island and acts as an important reservoir for the region and as remediation point for previously used water.Water character is mostly stable and 244、controlled by floodgates intersecting with the Historical Ji Canal.It is recommended that the lakes edges be restored as natural wetlands,promoting native habitats and vegetation,though with controlled pedestrian spaces and pathways,along with small lakeside boating amenities.-Eco-canals located alo245、ng the eco-corridors of Hupoxi,Yin-fenglin,and Ganluxi,act as important water systems that serve natural habitats and vegetation along with becoming points for rainwater discharge serving a district level strategy.Water in these areas are mainly dependent on rainwater and the type of landscape veget246、ation designed should be carefully considered to accommodate such streetscape pathways that form a wall against the water252、 where people can overlook the water and walk along the edge.These can turn into scenic viewpoints or vistas which allow people to enjoy selected designed in the form of varied and entertaining spaces for people to gather for bonfires and families and friends spend more time outdoors with each other instead of alone inside;where people are able to easily walk for their everyday needs;where public facilities are only one step residential population are now covered within a 5 minute walk to any public facility and fully covered when an 8 minute walk is planning,urban design,architecture,landscape and ecological environments,our findings conclude that the success of the Ecological City are i273、n the provision of five essential ingredients.These ingredients form the core for each basic commu-nity cell found within our design,coming together within a 5-8 minute walk to each other.These are described as:-Provision of desirable and high-quality stron-gerforming the strength and success of Tianjins Ecological City.ECO-CELL THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF CREATING AN ECOLOGICAL is designed with a colo311、r of green and blue,reflecting the citys history and importance of its green ecological corridors and rivers.-These elements for the open spaces within each Eco-Cell,designed to change in character,use,and identity over the course of the year.Spring-Melting of the snow and rains form the crystalline312、 picture of small lakes and ponds for people to wade,fish,or meditatively walk.-Vegetation starts to bloom,community residents can watch the magic of nature start to come to life.Summer-Small lakes and ponds become creeks and streams where the to historic Ji Canal.-Minor modification in location of neighborhood green and commercial to reinforce street activity leading to town and sub-centers,to Eco-Valley and waterfront LAND-USE TABULATION VS.PREVIOUS REGULATORY LAND-USE TABULATION规划用地平衡表与原有用地平衡表比对142FAR ANALYSISTianjins Eco-City is envisioned as the home for a population of 350,000 residents,and a working population of approximately half that figure.A323、s part of the design process we have taken these numbers into consideration along with our belief in provid-ing humanly-scaled developments with appropriate density;ensuring that the site is established as a robust and vibrant mixed-use district which combines a higher-quality living,work-ing,and ec324、ological environment for Tianjin.As such,we propose an appropriate FAR and city skyline control which responds to local characteristics,reinforces important urban and ecological corridors,the natural environment,and the achievement of this guidelines aims.-Design of FAR follows best practice princip325、les learned from TOD(transit-oriented development)case studies.FAR is highest at points(compared to surrounding areas)where the Eco-Valley Light Rail stations emerge.From these stations building density cascades downwards following a ten-minute walking radius and in engaging the waterfront and eco-c326、orridors.-Design of FAR along the Eco-Valley ranges between an FAR of 2 to 4,ensuring appropriate critical mass of residents,workers,and visitors to partake in the activities and functions along the EDGE街墙控制 Street edge controls on the site are desi328、gned to reinforce impor-tant corridors and in providing a continuous yet robust identity for use functions and streetscape activities.Appropriately designed controls help to ensure consistency and works in conjunction with material,color,and building setback codes.When occurring within proximity of 329、the Eco-Valley and Eco-Corridors,open breaks between buildings should be carefully designed with orientation providing strong viewsheds and functional relationships to these important ecological activity spaces.-Important central axis roads and designated urban corridors require 80 to 90%street fron330、tages to create continuous street walls,linear street space,and pedestrian-friendly street sec-tions.-60-80%required street frontage should be along secondary roads that tie into central axis roads and designated urban cor-ridors.-50-60%required street frontages are along special streets or corridor331、s that provide viewing vistas,some secondary though mostly third-level roads toward the outer boundaries of the site and waterfront.-For buildings with a street wall beyond a length of 100 meters,buildings should be either:1)Divided into multiple buildings,2)Vertically articulated along their horizo332、ntal facades,3)Employ different materials and
