This district, however, enjoys a large density of shopping malls and office towers thus ensuring a constant flow of activity through the integrate maze of built form; unfortunately because of the exiting infrastructural constraints of the proximity of12、 dyke and road locations to the existing facades, there is limited opportunity to build an iconic open space system without selective demolitions and removals and further urban infill along the riverside.The design of the park comes in two parts, the new He Dong Promenade that straddles the He Dong 13、bridge and extends into the riverfront via terrace and steps, and the new He Dong Waterfront Plaza that runs along the river to the east of the bridge and acts as the forecourt to the many malls that lay along the riverfront. The He Dong Promenade straddles and runs underneath the existing retrofitt14、ed He Dong Bridge and extends into the riverfront with a minimum 0m setback from the building facade to bridge facade. This widens the visual corridor when one arrives from the bridge while giving and heightening the prominence of the commercial venues that lines both sides of the plaza. There will 15、be selective demolitions and removals of buildings within this area to create the new open arrival court while the existing roadways will be paved over to create a widened pedestrian realm while still maintaining their function as an informal EVA access and roadway. The He Dong Riverfront Plaza is t16、he eye of the city where people come to be seen and to see. Acting as a terminus space not only for the interior mall arcade and the national passenger railway station, this space is the most important landscape segment within the entire new riverfront system. Unfortunately, with the thin public spa17、ce realm there is limited opportunity to create a large iconic space within this area thus infill is needed to create this space. The proposal is to have a joint venture between the government and private realm to create infill in the form of a large underground parking garage infrastructure outside18、 of the existing dyke to relieve the vehicular traffic pressure within the CBD while at the same time providing open space on its roof top podium. In the Red Waterfront Proposal there is retrofitting of the existing Sheng Long Park open space circulation24、 and design structure to better connect the city through and with the riverfront. The challenge of this portion of the design is the extreme ten (10.0m) drop from the city and road to the future designed water level that will controlled by a weir down stream by the government of Zhuzhou. The proposa25、l is to maintain the existing dyke wall and build upon it with gabion baskets filled with local geological red stones and rocks that will act both as an educational element for the present and future of not only the city history, economics, but more deeper and older, its geology. Within the gabion t26、erraces of lush vegetation and red earth will be three tiers of walkways that meander through the newly designed vegetative walk and cut through terminus plazas and terraces that extend from the citys urban streetscape urban fabric. Throughout the meandering terrace walkways will be resting nooks an27、d lookout points while on the lowest promenade will be fishing platforms along with the usual resting nooks. This portion of the park will be known as the Red Earth Terrace Gardens To maintain the existing vernacular of the riverfront, retrofitted metallic boats in the forms of floating platforms an28、d man-made islands inter-connected with boardwalks will float along the park as an extension of the open space beyond the shoreline and into the water for a different human experience and interaction with the water while maintaining the waters history and identity. A particularly large platform made29、 of combining numerous boats together will be used as a pedestrian floating stage or platform looking back onto the ten metre height dyke wall to create a diversity of uses such as night time movie viewing or performances. These industrial remnants include shipping docks and cranes and a key industrial warehouse that can be converted into a convention centre and rather large boutique shopping centre. To the south will be the Crane Garden where the main red shipping crane infrastructure will be r36、etained and the existing shipping docks will be retained to preserve the waterfronts most recent genius loci. Within this park will be cafes and restaurant that activate the plaza with the opportunity to create a small shipping museum to better educate and show the morphology of boats and types of i37、ndustries that have passed through this site over time. A more ambitious site is to preserve the largest warehouse within the site and retrofit it into a boutique shopping mall, convention centre, and/or performance centre for the entire city to enjoy. A large plaza will be retained within this dist38、rict to act not only as an arrival court to the large building but also an informal extension of it also being able to house numerous exhibitions that may occur within the large retained warehouse. The urban wetland within this district is43、 much more significant than that it should be used as a green instigator for the districts urban renewal. The wetland is wide enough to have wide enough banks for multi-purpose lawn and interior waterfront promenades that will become an attractor for development along its banks. Along these banks wi44、ll urban attractors such as information kiosks, small restaurants and shop, and normal landscape infrastructure such as pavilions and trellises. This district will house a mixture of new residential, commercial, and office developments that will in turn give density and critical mass to the new riverfront that will be developed within this district. The open space system plays upon the remnants of the super50、 factory that will be replaced by the new SOHO district. Along the existing railway lines will be the new Central Railway Park that will ultimately lead to the new SOHO Riverfront Plaza that will terrace down into the water and be flanked by the Terminus Amusement Park. The Central Railway Park main51、tains the existing railway tracks that runs through and along the peripheries of the SOHO district. The large dome industrial infrastructure will be retained to create a sheltered commons area that will house a multitude of activities such as play courts and informal plazas. The SOHO Riverfront Plaz52、a is an informal large open air plaza that terraces down into the water in two parts so that the first level becomes a informal amphitheatre for the low plaza. This is the largest multipurpose space within this area acting both as a social space with a multitude of hidden or dynamic elements such as53、 dry fountains to being the urban living room of the new SOHO district. The main open space for this district is the Central Bridge Park that straddles and runs underneath the bridge. To further connecti59、vity to the riverfront, the riverfront road was buried to create a continuous plaza front that eventually steps down into the Riverfront Promenade so that all obstacles in terms of pedestrian movement to the riverfront are removed. To attract people to this park, both active/commercial and passive p60、rograms must be introduced within the overall planning of the park. The park is actually separated into two parts with different functions. To the north is the more active portion leading up to the open riverfront multipurpose lawns and fields that front the new extended Zhuzhou urban core. This are61、a will consists of a central commercial centre to bring people into the site while giving people something to do while within the park. Behind the commercial centre will be its own commercial plaza where functions and/or outdoor cafes can be extended into. To the south is the recreation area of the 62、site fronting the more residential area of the site thus the park provides amenity to the surrounding urban fabric. This area consist of an informal running track, basketball courts, and a large informal lawn and plaza for a multiple range of activities such as community soccer matches, weekend or n63、ight time community dancing, and or just relaxing and strolling. The Riverfront Promenade is located at the lower level below the stepped dyke fronting the river. The steps not only provide access but an informal seating terrace overlooking the water and across to the new exciting He Dong Riverfront64、 Plaza. The main transition pieces from the upper Central Bridge Park to the Riverfront Promenade are two feature boutique restaurants or cafes overlooking the vegetative terrace, ensuring a majestic view and experience while enjoying a dining or nostalgic moment. While remaining an extension of the urban land use the plaza will also function as the central hard surface program in contrast to the large swaths of gre71、en lawns and planting framing it on either side. Within the park will be remnant shipping boat loosely connecting the east and west side of the Xiang Jiang Rivers industrial program whilst also serving as an important visual node for this important landscape.
